I did a talk the other day in Bahrain about how to manage projects in hostile environments.
Afterwards, a guy asked me about how to live life to the fullest despite setbacks and difficulties. I had to really think about that as it is quite a deep topic. This is turn inspired me to write about it from my perspective.
Living life can be challenging especially if you don’t find a proper direction. People come and go, we all deal with loss and problematic times that can make living life a troublesome process! It is hard to stand back up after a fall, but falls are a part of life. These falls must not prevent you from living your life in any way. Always, always get back up!
Life is a complex mix of peace, love, life, falls, ups and downs. However, the downs should never hold you back from living your life.
There are a lot of things that can bring us down, as we deal with life. Broken relationships, challenging times, financial difficulties amongst other things, can be key factors. If we are talking about life and some of the main issues that bring us down, let’s not forget the main three of the reasons that might prevent us from living life the way we want:
1. Not Being Able To Focus- Procrastination
Procrastination is the name of the game for many. They forget and don’t find the zeal to be able to work and stop working on things that are important. The key here to realize is that there are so many times that things are important for us but we are unable to focus on these things and instead, try procrastinating about literally everything. This not only stops us from achieving our goals but it also makes us lazy and pushes us to develop an attitude where we don’t necessarily live life but drag our feet through it.
As I mentioned earlier, things can become challenging but it is not the end of the world. We can always try to come out of our shells and make sure that we not procrastinate and push ourselves to our highest to achieve bigger and better things. Procrastination is one of the main things that stop us from achieving so it is better to let go of procrastination and focus our attitude towards achieving things as it is one of the keys to living life.
2. Low Motivation, Low Self Esteem
People are easily stricken into depression these days. We find bullies every here and there and, guess what, there are people who try their best to bring us down. There are even times that some of us have to struggle with having a low self-esteem, low motivation and depression which prevents us from getting on with a happy life. Having low self-esteem is one of the major pitfalls and one of the major loopholes in our personality that crosses our path every so often, bit is something that must be dealt with effectively.
You cannot survive or get through life happily if you have low self-esteem because people with low self-esteem don’t get too far. Therefore, it is always better and best to work on yourself and try to make sure that you muster up the courage to be who you are, be ahead of your game and try your best to have a good level of motivation so that you can outweigh and out challenge others around you and believe in yourself. As the famous saying by Theodore Roosevelt goes, “Believe you can and you’re halfway there”. Self-belief, therefore, is crucial and an integral element of achieving and getting the best out of life.
3. Broken Relationships
We all fall in love. Whether it is with our parents or a special someone, there is always someone very near and dear to us. However, not all the time things go well in relationships. There are times when we may face serious problems and have to deal with broken relationships and troublesome times. This may become very challenging for some people and in the face of adversity, they may even want to stop living life.
Relationships come and go but it is always important to remember when to let go of a person who is not treating you in a certain way. It is often better to let go of the past and move on. Not only with people, but with jobs. It is not easy, it doesn’t come to us naturally but at times, that is the best course of action that one can take when faced with challenging relationships that no longer serve you.
So what can we do?
While there are always setbacks in life, there are always ways of dealing with them effectively too. If times have become challenging, know and realize that some tips can always help you overcome these and bring the best out of you. My top three would be:
When you are spiritual, you learn to let go of what was, accept what is and deal with everything that comes your way in a much mature and advanced level. Being spiritual gives a reason to your being. It is something that pushes you to become your best self and your highest self. In fact, the truth is that being spiritual pushes you towards great heights and helps you overcome any challenge.
Therefore, improving your spirituality and getting in touch with God or any higher power might be some of the best ways to deal with life. This has most certainly happened to me. There were times on my row across the Indian Ocean, or when I was losing a loved one like the passing of my parents, that I really turned to a higher force to guide and support me. It is something that I try to do more often now, without waiting for a drama…
Live In The Moment
A lot of times, we are all bound by what happened to us and are always and mostly focused on what could have been if not what has been. In the moment, we fail to understand the importance of living in the moment. Living in the moment helps us get rid of the past and any negativity in it. It is one of the most crucial things to living life and loving life because it frees us from a lot of things and helps us to push through life in the best and most sensible way possible.
Added to this ‘now’ feeling, we can also be optimistic about what the future will bring. There is always the next minute, the next hour, the next day to be looking forward to. So, go on, look forward simply because none of us has any understanding what even the next second will bring!
Believe In Yourself
No force can bring you down and stop you to live and love life if you believe in yourself. Having self-belief is a strong element of spirituality and one of the key things to have in your personality if you want to achieve great heights and success in life.
Living life can be challenging but as the famous saying by Martin Luther King Jr. goes: “the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience but as to where he is standing during challenging and controversial times” - pain, hurt and loss are all part of the process and they shape you in becoming who you are today.
Again, we have the ability to make a choice about how we live our lives. So lets go and live them to the full!
